First Sail Experience – 2-Hour Introductory Class

Start sailing the right way in this engaging 2-hour First Sail experience - an official introductory program developed by US Sailing. Designed for complete beginners, this class is the perfect way to discover the fundamentals of sailing in a safe, supportive, and hands-on environment. No prior experience is needed - just bring your curiosity and readiness for adventure.

Introduce essential sailing terminology and parts of the boat

Discover how sails work and how wind powers movement

Learn simple knots and basic boat handling concepts

Take a turn steering and controlling the sails

Practice balance, direction changes, and teamwork on the water

Cancel more than 7 days prior to the start of your program: You will receive a full refund of the registration fee (excluding the protection fee).
Cancel within 7 days of the program start date: You will receive a credit equal to the registration amount, valid for 2 years from the original transaction date. This credit can be used toward any future sailing program.

Without Cancellation Protection:
Cancel more than 7 days prior to the start of your program: You will receive a credit equal to $100 less the registration amount, valid for 1 year from the original transaction date. This credit can be used toward any future sailing program.
Cancel within 7 days of the program start date: No refund or credit will be issued, regardless of the reason for cancellation.

All cancellations must be submitted in writing via email to merrillsc@cornell.edu. Program start date is defined as the first day of your registered session. Credits are non-transferable and must be used by the original participant.
